Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use Policy

1. Scope and Purpose
The International Journal of Advanced Business Studies (IJABS) recognizes the growing use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Grammarly, language models, or similar technologies) in scholarly communication. This policy aims to ensure transparency, accountability, and academic integrity in the use of AI-assisted technologies in manuscript preparation.
2. Permitted Use of AI Tools
Authors are not encouraged to use AI tools. However they may use AI tools only as supportive aids, including:
2.1. Language editing and grammar improvement
2.2. Improving clarity, readability, or structure
2.3. Formatting assistance
Such use must not alter the scientific content, originality, or interpretation of the research.
3. Prohibited Use of AI Tools
AI tools must not be used to:
3.1. Generate original research ideas, hypotheses, or conclusions
3.2. Produce data, results, or analyses
3.3. Replace critical scholarly judgment
3.4. Fabricate, falsify, or manipulate references or citations
3.5. Be listed as an author or co-author
AI systems cannot meet authorship criteria and therefore must not be credited as authors.
4. Disclosure Requirement
Authors are required to disclose any use of generative AI tools in the preparation of their manuscript.
Disclosure should be included in:
4.1. A dedicated “AI Use Statement”, or
4.2. The Acknowledgements section
Example disclosure:
“The author(s) declare that this work was prepared independently and that no AI-based applications or tools were used to generate any part of the manuscript. However, [tool name] was used to assist with language editing and improving clarity. The authors take full responsibility for the content of the manuscript.”
Failure to disclose AI use when it has occurred may be considered a breach of publication ethics.
5. Author Responsibility
Authors remain fully responsible for:
5.1. The accuracy, originality, and integrity of the manuscript
5.2. Ensuring that AI-assisted text does not contain plagiarism, bias, or fabricated information
5.3. Verifying all references, data, and claims
The use of AI does not transfer responsibility from the authors to the tool.
6. Detection and Ethical Oversight
IJABS uses plagiarism detection tools to assess textual overlap. At present, AI-detection tools are not considered definitive and are not used as sole evidence of misconduct. Concerns related to undisclosed or inappropriate AI use will be handled in accordance with:
6.1. COPE guidelines
6.2. IJABS publication ethics and misconduct procedures
7. Compliance with Indexing and Ethics Standards
This policy aligns with the principles and recommendations of:
7.1. Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)
7.2. Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)
IJABS reserves the right to update this policy as standards and technologies evolve.
8. Policy Acceptance
By submitting a manuscript to IJABS, authors confirm that they have:
8.1. Read and understood this AI-use policy
8.2. Complied with disclosure requirements
8.3. Accepted full responsibility for the submitted work.
Declaration of Conflicting Interests:
Please use the following statement in the article:
“The author declare no potential conflicts of interest with respect to the research, authorship and/or publication of this article.”
Plagiarism
The editors of IJABS will check the similarity index of every submitted article (via Turitin) to ensure the academic integrity of the submitted article. At IJABS the editors will spend all their efforts to ensure that only original and high-quality papers are published. If the turnitin score of an article is found to be high, it will be returned to the author/s to rectify the issue/s. Here are the turnitin policy for IJABS: less than 25% is accepted; 26%-40% will be returned for editing; 41% and more is rejected.
